USS Penumbra Sim Narrative, SD 202107.16 Announcement: . The regular sim for this week was "suspended" in order to conduct a Promotion and an Awards Ceremony. . Rather than simply a narrative of the activities, this summary was prepared instead. Promotion: . Lieutenant Junior Grade Jackson Carshel was promoted to full Lieutenant. While no longer a "junior officer", he remains, however, the "junior" member of the Science Department since the other members, LtCmdr. T'Lin and Cmdr. Relok, continue as the Assistant Chief and Chief of Sciences, respectively. . Congratulations, Mr. Carshel! Awards: The Gamma Cluster . The Awards Ceremony began with Mr. Carshel and Lt. Dr. Katarina Hawke being belatedly awarded the Gamma Cluster #G# in recognition of a full year's service in the Gamma Quadrant. This will be the last of these awarded since the Penumbra is no longer operating in the Gamma Quadrant. Attendance Awards . After this was given a series of Attendance Awards. These awards are for consecutive attendance without an absence (though any sim that was cancelled for whatever reason was counted as though attended). . For twenty-five consecutive sims, the award is *25*, and was given to Col. Travis Patterson, LtCmdr. Jason Carter, and SgtMaj. Derek Hines. . For fifty consecutive sims, the award is *50*, and was given to LtCmdr. Denovan Hawke and Lt. Jackson Carshel. . For seventy-five consecutive sims, the award is *75*, and was given to Cdre. Zak Taylor and Cmdr. Relok. Captain's Commendations . There were two Captain's Commendations =O= given out. These require some explanation as to what the award commemorates. . The first was awarded to Lt. Jackson Carshel. The Commodore explained, "When we were first dumped through the Rift the thing destabilized ... and though many people worked on the solution, it was the 'Magneto Warheads' coupled with the plasma-infused graviton network that stabilized it." This out-of-the-box idea was entirely Carshel's. (Refer to .) . The second was awarded to LtCmdr. Tabeshk Tibris. The Commodore explained, "When we went back to the Rift and found the Golem there with his Warbird, it was your modified 'Green Energy Monster Virus' that ended up taking out his ship's computer system (and maybe even the Golem himself)." The success of this virus (and its delivery system) was due to Tabby's unconventional thinking. (Refer to .) Purple Hearts . With the appropriate solemn dignity, the Commodore awarded the following individuals Purple Hearts. (For a few of these, the award was later upgraded to Gold Stars in recognition of previously-earned Purple Hearts or the awarding of multiple Purple Hearts for recent events.) . The first set of Purple Hearts were awarded for injuries sustained during the event now known as "The Battle of the Bunker", which took place on the Mirror Universe Kyrathian Homeworld when the Away Team was forced to hole-up in a bunker-like building while fighting off Kyrathian Soldiers and Gatherers, eventually executing a controlled withdrawal down a tunnel that led to the Heart of the Ancients. (Refer to .) . The recipients of this first set of Purple Hearts were LtCmdr. Denovan Hawke, LtCmdr. T'Lin, and Lt. Carshel. . When they reached the Heart of the Ancients they were forced to engage with the Mirror Universe Ivorez, also called the "Evil Vine". A psychic battle was fought there and all those involved came out mentally and emotionally damaged. They were awarded Purple Hearts (or Gold Stars if they already had a Purple Heart). (Refer to .) . This second set of recipients is LtCmdr. Bevin MacArdry, LtCmdr. Dr. Shadow K'Trevala (Gold Star, he'd previously earned a Purple Heart), LtCmdr. Tabeshk Tibris (Gold Star, since he also received a Purple Heart for the Battle of the Bunker), and LtCmdr. T'Lin (Gold Star, she'd previously earned a Purple Heart). Distinguished Service Award . The Distinguished Service Award >+< is given to those who have distinguished themselves by heroic performance at risk of their own life. The Commodore favored all those who participated in the Battle of the Bunker with this award: Col. Travis Patterson, LtCmdr. Bevin MacArdry, LtCmdr. Dr. Shadow K'Trevala, LtCmdr. Tabeshk Tibris, LtCmdr. Denovan Hawke, LtCmdr. T'Lin, Lt. Jackson Carshel, SgtMaj. Derek Hines, MstSgt. Khal'Gon, and Cpr. Homer Kyle. Special Achievement Award . And last, but certainly not least, LtCmdr. T'Lin was awarded the Anastas Medal of Achievement =(O)= which is meant to recognize those who achieve success in an extraordinarily difficult endeavor. The Commodore explained this was awarded in recognition of "the extreme sacrifice you endured in the psychic battle with the Ivorez. Though others assisted you in that battle, it was you who facilitated and bore the brunt of the backlash." Website: .
